OVERVIEW
Teach students to design, build, or manage residential construction that results in crafted, healthy, safe, durable, comfortable, affordable, energy and resource efficient, environmentally responsive houses.
Students also learn to incorporate appropriate (climate specific) building materials, systems and technologies, and make design and material selections based on current applied building-science principles and sustainable design/green building practices.
Would you like to build a career as a carpenter? Then start with the Carpentry program at HTC. You’ll gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to construct, install, erect and repair structures to comply with all existing codes and in a manner that exhibits skill and craftsmanship. You’ll read blueprints, sketches and specifications for types of materials required and standards of work. Get hands-on training with hand tools, power tools and equipment. From floor and wall framing to roofing to insulation, this program gives you the foundation for a career in carpentry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
WORK ENVIRONMENT
A person who has carpenter training may be an all around carpenter or may specialize in areas such as framer, interior finisher, sider, shingler, drywall installer, acoustical ceiling installer, maintenance carpenter, millwright, bridge builder or prefabrication production builder. A carpenter may advance to the position of crew supervisor or job superintendent. Carpenters may go into business for themselves and become contractors for new construction or remodeling work. They may also go into related fields of work such as sales, lumber yard management, building inspection or factory representative.
