OVERVIEW
Have you thought about a career in research and development, but didn't know where to begin? Then start with HTC's Research and Development Technology program and develop the skills you need to succeed. What are they? Excellent problem solving skills, great attention to detail, ability to quickly apply mastered skills to new applications and the aptitude for using the computer as a data acquisition and analysis tool. You'll find that research and development laboratory technicians work as part of a team of scientists and/or engineers to plan, coordinate, collect, analyze, interpret and communicate the data required to develop the next generation of products. Since the success of high-technology companies is often based on the accomplishments of its product design and development teams, it's a career with exciting possibilities.

To be succesful in this field you should have basic mechanical ability, communication skills, and a math aptitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The working environment of a research and development (R&D) technician is mostly within the offices of manufacturing or industrial plants. They normally work a 40-hour week.
JOB OUTLOOK
R&D laboratory technicians are needed in every company across multiple industries that develop new products. The knowledge and skills obtained in this degree will allow the technician to immediately contribute to the research and development process of planning, coordinating, collecting, analyzing, interpreting and communicating data. The specific application of the learned knowledge and skills may vary with industry, but the ability to successfully collect and scrutinize data will make the graduates well sought after by local companies that research and develop products.

HTC a nationally accredited member of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. It offers vocational certifcates, diplomas, degrees and transfer curricullum to other MnSCU institutions. NIMs certification is also available through HTC's Customized Training Services.
