LABS AND CLASSROOMS
Our labs are equipped with cutting edge equipment and software. Windows and Mac software is used with dual-boot Intel Mac workstations. Interactive Design is designed and distributed using this lab. Programs such as the Adobe software including Flash, Captivate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and After Effects (to name a few) are used with the latest versions and updated regularly. Autodesk 3D Studio Max is used for 3D modeling and animation. This gives the student the most current software in which to learn and become employed in the interactive design field.
Video production facilities include a production studio and non-linear editing lab. Students become proficient in pre-production, production and post-production with the latest video production technologies. Students use the studio for green-screen or multicam productions using the HD workflow. Final Cut Pro and Avid are used to edit projects to meet broadcast standards. Students learn to distribute their projects to the web or DVD using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro. Often, our labs are more technologically advanced than industry studios.
SUPPLIES/TOOLS
Students are able to use the program computers, software, and equipment during scheduled class time and during open lab hours. While this access provides many opportunities for students to work on course projects and non-course portfolio building projects, some students choose to purchase their own equipment to provide more flexibility. We encourage new students to wait until they have completed at least a semester before purchasing personal hardware and software to facilitate a more informed purchase.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students must demonstrate computer proficiency by passing the Macintosh or Windows evaluation before enrolling in program technical courses.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Interactive Designers work at design firms, agencies, large corporations, and e-learning companies using computers and other technology devices.
Video producers work on sets and on-location through all phases of production. Editors work on computers.
JOB OUTLOOK
Animator & Multi-Media Artist
Most of the growth in this occupation will occur in the movie and video industries. Animators and artists are needed to work on video games, and movie and television special effects. They are also needed to work on 3D animated movies. In addition, growth will occur due to an increasing need for computer graphics in the growing number of mobile technologies.
Competition for jobs will be strong. This is especially true in the movie and video industry. The number of people who apply for openings is usually greater than the number of jobs available.
About 60 percent of animators and multi-media artists are self-employed.
Film & Video Editors
American films are in demand all over the world, so film companies will continue to produce as many films a possible. In addition, cable television stations are also creating their own movies. Both of these factors should contribute to a need for film and video editors.
This occupation is attractive to many people because of its perceived glamour. Thus there will be a lot of competition for jobs.
