OVERVIEW
Are you interested in the way things move? Fluid Power Engineering Technology takes that curiosity and puts it to work. The fluid power industry is one of the fastest growing technologies today. Fluid power technicians are responsible for researching and designing, fabricating, operating, testing, servicing, and selling fluid power systems. You will work with hand and machine tools, evaluating and adjusting systems for maximum efficiency. At HTC, you will get the hands-on training that prepares you for success, so you are ready for opportunities in industries such as automation, material handling and processing, heavy equipment, plant automation, and fluid power distribution.

LABS AND CLASSROOMS
Our labs are equipped with over a million dollars of equipment used to train students on both the state-of-the-art equipment using computers, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), servos and proportional control valves, instrumentation etc., as well as the more simple manual and solenoid control systems. There are lots of hydraulic systems and components to work with as well as pneumatic, electrical, and electronics hardware for hands on learning.

SUPPLIES/TOOLS
Tools and equipment that are used in our lab are provided by the college. You will need to have your own pair of safety glasses and a TI-30XA calculator along with notebooks and necessary supplies. If you have a different scientific calculator, that you are comfortable with, you may use it.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students will be expected to purchase or have the use of the various textbooks that will be required throughout the program. We try to minimize the number of books to purchase and get a lot of use out of each required book.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
We will be using both a classroom and a working lab. The classrooms have confortable chairs. You will receive hands-on training in the fluid power engineering lab and the manufacturing engineering technology lab. It will be your responsibility to help keep the labs clean and safe as you work on various projects that will enhance your learning. Education should be fun,  enjoyable, and very informative. The instructors will make your experience at HTC a great one that you will remember for a lifetime.

JOB OUTLOOK
The fluid power industry is one of the fastest growing technologies today. Technicians will find employment with industries in automation, material handling and processing, heavy equipment, plant automation, and fluid power distribution. These opportunities will exist in large and small local companies as well as international markets. Jobs will include supervision, engineering, inside and outside sales consultant, and product development.

The job market for a hydraulic or pneumatic technician has been steady. Prior to 2009, each campus received approximately 300 jobs postings each year.  Most of them were offers from a wide variety of companies. 2011 is seeing fewer companies with requests for a larger number of graduates.
