OVERVIEW
Auto body repair and refinishing technicians are skilled professionals who diagnose and repair vehicles damaged as a result of collisions, corrosion, and wear. At HTC, you’ll learn about Auto Body Collision Technology from instructors who have real-world experience meeting industry standards. With a combination of classroom education and hands-on training repairing cars, you’ll be prepared to work in auto body repair shops and dealerships. You’ll know how to estimate auto repair work on damaged vehicles. You’ll learn to use power and hand tools to repair or replace body parts, and you’ll complete painting work using cutting edge technology. LABS AND CLASSROOMS
The lab has 16,000 square feet of space and state-of-the-art equipment currently used in most modern auto body shops.
SUPPLIES/TOOLS
Students receive a list of required tools to purchase. HTC hosts a Tool Day in mid-August, with many vendors offering substantial discounts for students. All students will be notified when the Tool Day schedule is set.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. If you’re ready to Get Started, you can begin the admissions process now. If you have questions, contact Student Services for helpful information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Graduates find work in franchised and independent auto body shops, dealerships, and as estimators and adjusters for insurance companies.
JOB OUTLOOK
Today, over 50 percent of auto body technicians are over 50 years of age. As they prepare to retire, technicians are needed on an ongoing basis.

HTC has a respected advisory committee comprised of individuals involved with and working in the collision repair industry. Their input keeps the program up-to-date on the latest trends and technology so HTC graduates have the skills employers require.
ACCREDITATION/AFFILIATIONS
Hennepin Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2003, HTC became a member of the HLC Academic Quality Improvement Program.

ARTICULATIONS
An articulation agreement between HTC and Minnesota State University Moorhead will facilitate credit transfer of HTC’s Auto Body Technician A.A.S. degree or diploma toward an Operations Management B.S. degree at Moorhead.
